Kelewele Date with Marietta (27/10/2017): Blogtober Review

Currently playing: 24k Magic – Bruno Mars

Hello world!

Welcome to another beautiful day. I hope you are doing great, even if you are not, I hope the day gets better.

Today is the last Friday of the month, which means, it’s time for a kelewele date.

How has the month been? I tried blogtober this year. To be honest, I did not enjoy the writing process of blogging every day in October. I think I prefer Blogmas to Blogtober. I even missed some days and it felt disorganized. Maybe, it’s because I was too busy and there was chaos almost every day and everywhere. I don’t think blogging every day is my thing. But I remember last December, I was able to blog every single day in December into the New Year and I really enjoyed doing it. Unfortunately, for blogtober, the desire wasn’t there.

but I love every post I wrote, I put effort in each of them

I wouldn’t jump into conclusions and say I will not do it again. Maybe, next year would be better.
In case you missed the Blogtober posts, I will list them below;

So, what have you been up to?

Kelewele Date with Marietta (30/06/2017): Mid Year Date

Hello world.

Welcome to another post of Kelewele Date with Marietta. It is the last Friday of the month and the last day of June. We are entering into the second half of the year. This is the time to make a 6 month plan of goals to be fulfilled till the end of the year. What do you really want to do before Christmas? Set some goals to be achieved before the year ends.

I am currently reading the Artist Way by Julia Cameron. It has so many insights for someone who wants to be creative. It does not only involve those creative souls like writers, poets, actors, painters etc. it also involves homemakers, teachers, mothers etc. it is a book for all, for those who want to live a creative life, not necessarily writers.

Can we talk about Pretty Little Liars or we should skip it to the end?

Let’s do the latter.

My current playlist on repeat.
Moonlight by Ariana Grande
Bad Liar by Selena Gomez
Malibu by Miley Cyrus
Wild Thoughts by DJ Khaled feat. Rihanna and Bryson Tiller

Now Pretty Little Liars talk, maybe, I will do a whole blog post about that, so stay tuned.

Add this to your July plans. Register here.

p.s. I am available for freelance writing. You can send me an email at degrantm@yahoo.com.

Kelewele Date with Marietta (28/04/2017): April Favourites

Hello world!

It is almost the ending of the month. I can’t believe we are entering into May. May means end of semester examinations, the start of the long vacation and Winneba’s very own Aboakyir.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Let’s begin today’s kelewele date.

Let’s start with Instagram Accounts I have eyes for, and it is mostly about food.

Abigi Healthy Bites is one I follow……most especially because of the colourful smoothies she display. I’m just waiting for a branch in Accra.

This is a very interesting food account which even shows behind the scenes of the food they are about to sell to their clients

This account wants me to celebrate my birthday every weekend. They are into cakes most especially

This account is dope. I am in love with it. I am an introvert and I relate to most of their posts.

To talk of shows, I haven’t really started watching the final 10 episodes of Pretty Little Liars. I am not ready for it to end, though I want to unmask A. D. Right now, I am done with 5 strong seasons of Jenifa’s Diary. Hoping to catch up with the rest of the episodes.

The Orange-Tangerine Plant at home in Accra has been producing very sweet fruits. They are huge like oranges but must be peeled in the way we peel tangerine.

Via

Easter was great, though I was mostly indoors. I went offline for about 48 hours, read The Power by Rhonda Byrne and tried to write more lifestyle blog post drafts.

Anyway, talking of lifestyle, I now write for JUMP Ghana. Jump is for Busy Ghana and I am part of the writers who write for the Lifestyle and Entertainment Segment. You can read some of my articles here and here.

Let's continue to talk on social media #keleweledate

Kelewele Date with Marietta (31/03/2017): Struggles

Hello world!

March ends today. This post comes to you live at dawn. I have so many things to do. I will be going to the other side of town

Welcome to this month’s kelewele date. Be warned, I might complain a lot in this post.

These past weeks have been a tough and busy one. I do not have enough sleep lately, and I wake up late. These weeks have been challenging. My creativity is in crisis, and I seriously need it back. Balancing school, work and social life is not easy, and I feel exhausted easily. My mind looks like a messy mind-map, but I try to feel positive.

My personal note to self

Although, you are going through these annoying times, you have to try and get your stuff together, and look put together. Try and look presentable in your appearance. Glasses and sunglasses helps you to hide your eyes. A bold lipstick is not bad to hide those troubled annoying times.

This is when you try to run to the beach to stare at the ocean. Then the ocean tells you that, he is also going through tough times, like collecting dirt and travelling a long distance to deposit them somewhere.

Me: I bond with you, Mr. Ocean.

Mr. Ocean sounds like I am having a chat with Billy Ocean.

Procrastination has paid me a visit. I have been postponing a lot of things……like doing laundry but I never procrastinate my eating habits. Food is now my friend……plus coconut water.

How has your month being?

Kelewele Date with Marietta (28/02/2017): February Musings

Hello world and you are welcome to this month’s kelewele where I will write and talk about all things pertaining to my interests.

February was a very short month. You wake up late and you’ll realize it is afternoon, and you’re now going to get breakfast. By the time you are done eating, it is evening, then you’ll go back to sleep.

It has been a very unproductive month for me, but I’ll try and catch up as soon as possible.

Apart from the month being unproductive, I have been up my poetry game. My inspiration comes mostly in the early hours of the morning and I try to write the idea down, if not the whole poem. On St. Valentine’s Day, I wrote some short love poems on the blog. You can read the poems here.

I was fortunate to meet my friend after 5 years. We were studying Science together and were in the same class. I was so excited to meet her.

More pictures with friends

My selfie game is getting better. FYI, I’m not good at taking selfies.

I even take selfie on a taxi’s rear view mirror

I was a twin for a day. We called each other companions.

I still visit my friend’s salon. She massages my hair though, while washing it and I like it that way.

Do you want to guest post on my blog?
Please send an email to degrantm@yahoo.com. Posts can be about art, poetry, sports, lifestyle, school, academic, social issues, health, beauty, fashion etc. Posts about politics, government, and religion will not be accepted.

Kelewele Date with Marietta (27/01/2017): Is January 365 days Long?

Happy Friday everyone!

You know, I almost typed a complaint about how long January is because the fact that next week is still January really baffles me. I mean, how? But that’s not a way to start my blog posts because it would bring wearier, and I don’t want my blog to ever do that.

Ever.

By the way, thank God for February.

You are welcome to the first kelewele date for this year. Maybe we should talk about how long this month is.

Ugh…what are the odds? Even next week after this kelewele date is still January.

The fact that everyone is complaining means that you have really overdue your stay, January. I think you should just go.

I used to dislike May for this very reason, especially when I was in Secondary School. School reopens in the first week in May. By the second and third week, you’re already broke, and you haven’t even reached June.

Your life is literally over. Seriously.

Maybe, January is so in love with the year 2017, he can’t let go.

This is me right now, even though I am not 25.

You know what? I want kelewele dates on this blog to involve readers of this blog. This is the opportunity to show your writing skills. Send an email to degrantm@yahoo.com with your post.

Please no topics on politics and religion.

Food posts are so welcome.

Anyone and everyone can send the posts/articles.

I’m waiting.

Who would guest post on the next kelewele date? Just send the email.

Toodles.

Kelewele Date with Marietta (30/12/2016): A Letter to 2016

Welcome to our last kelewele date of the year!!! WHOOOOO!!!! Can you believe it? I still remember when it was the beginning of the year and I wasn’t feeling enthusiastic about it, but it is almost over, so we thank goodness about that.

Anyway, 2016 was a mixture of everything. In this kelewele date, I have written a letter to 2016.

Dear 2016,
Oh, you are almost ending I can see. Your last day is tomorrow. I can’t believe that is the end of you. I remember when I was a little younger, I thought you would be a very strange year. I thought we could have pen pals from space and drive our cars in the air. How wonderful. You are ending tomorrow and I obviously know nothing like that would happen tomorrow.
Or would it?
You made the beginning of my year less enthusiastic. A loved one of mine was seriously ill, but she is ok now.
I made new friends in you. I made some achievements during your time.
But you know you took some people away, right. That’s what we hate about you. You gave us broken hearts.
You made us put our broken hearts on paper. We wrote more than we expected.
But you are going away, and we won’t see you again. That is somehow a good thing, but we will keep the sweet memories with us and the achievements and the milestones. Just the good aspects of it. For the bad sides of you, you can take them away. Take them away, and never let them come back. We have no room for them.
It was a privilege to meet you, 2016.
Good bye.

Let’s meet 2017.

Kelewele Date with Marietta (25/11/2016): O Come, O Come Emmanuel

Hello world!

Good morning and happy Friday! Today is Friday the 25th, which means two things;

  •       It is the last Friday of the month, which means, it’s time for kelewele date!
  •        It is almost the beginning of the Advent season, which is observed by some Christian churches to prepare and await for the preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus Christ at Christmas. The term is a version of the Latin word meaning “coming”.

Which explains the title of today’s kelewele date. O come, O come Emmanuel…..

So, what are your plans for this year’s holiday season? Some of us are so concerned about the elections. Well, everyone is concerned, I know.

But…

This is me—story of my life

Please General Elections, don’t let your wahala take away the Christmas Spirit.

That’s what happened during the last general elections. Everything was in a mess, and it took the spirit away.

But I am not one who celebrates or observe the Advent, but it is fun counting down to Christmas.
Some Religious Bodies help us to count down to Christmas by giving us quotations and things to ponder upon.

My blogging game in November was not as expected. I was not feeling too well, so I took an involuntary break. But I am back, and healthy.

Miz Akwele of the Purple Shades Blog wrote an interesting bog post about the Art of PurchasingKelewele. You should go have a read. She wrote it very well and I love it. As for the time kelewele is being sold, I think it depends on the community. Whenever I’m in Winneba, you can only get kelewele after 6pm, but whenever I am in the neighbourhood I live in, in the city, you can get kelewele at 3pm. But she has a point, kelewele taste better when it is purchased in the night. I just don’t know why. It’s funny, you know.

O come, thou key of David, come,
And open wide our heav’nly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.

This is one of my favourite verses of the Advent Hymn. You can find this in the Roman Catholic Hymnal, number 120. Even though, I do not observe it, I love the lyrics.

Have you heard of Rojayjay? Then what are you waiting for? Do you want to be in the FOMO state?
It’s not a good state to be in.

In the mean time🎄🎅🎆🎇🎈🎉🎊

Kelewele Date with Marietta (28/10/2016): October Ending

Hello world! Bonjour!

Today is the last Friday of the month, which means, it’s time for a kelewele date with me.

Anyway, before anything else, let me say a huge thank you to you all, for supporting me and encouraging me during the nomination and voting of the Ghana Tertiary Awards. Unfortunately, we did not win the Most Influential Student Blogger/Writer. But thank you for all your vim. I love you all, and thank you for believing in me.

We are still in the internship mood, teaching and learning and writing our final year project work. This month has been a very busy month for me since the beginning of the month. I am excited the weekend is around the corner, and I would get some time to rest.

This internship has made me see the value of weekends. Of course, I valued weekends when I was having the normal school session but I am now doing an 8 to 5 session of teaching, project work, and office work, so you can imagine. I need four days of weekend every week.

Do you know that #keleweledate on the blog is two years old? It’s been an incredible journey of useless updates and chats, but it was fun right? And it still is.

We slowly getting to the end of the year, which means three four things; end of internship, my birthday, the elections and Christmas!!! Please be safe, and let us laugh together over a glass of classic sobolo, and some kelewele.

See you next month, y’all.

And happy new month in advance.

Kelewele Date with Marietta (30/09/2016): *Insert Surprised Emoji Here*

Hello world!

Wow! I am so glad to have the week come to an end. It has been a super busy week for me, and I am determined to spend this weekend and feel every fiber of the weekend. Last weekend was wasted for me, I did not do anything productive and I ended up feeling more tired when this weekend started. I am determined to tick some things on my TO DO list. I can even do some household work too, since I was not able to do them last weekend.

Today is the last Friday of the month, which brings us to the date on this blog
Drumroll please……….

Kelewele Date with Marietta *raises eyebrows twice at a fast pace*

I have started my student teaching practice, aka, internship. It has been a love-hate journey if you ask me. I teach ICT, which is Information and Communication Technology in high school. I think I have to write a whole post about it later. What do you think?
Selfie Before Work

On Wednesday, my blog turned three years old! I’m so glad I have this little baby of mine. I wrote a post about it. Go check it out here.

Tomorrow is October! Say What? October means…….. Countdown to Christmas, countdown till the end of this internship (oh, please come early), the Ghana Tertiary Awards, birthdays (yes), and I’ll try and see if I can go back to my first love of independence, Winneba, and say hi to the place. (I miss you Sir Charles Beach!!!)

Anyway, so last month, my play was performed at the Nubuke Foundation, East Legon, but unfortunately, I was not able to attend, (What?). I am yet to see the video of the production which would be sent to me soon. *can’t wait*

Who else has been making playlists according to the season? I do. A lot. So, I am yet to listen to M.anifest’s No Where Cool album. I might like some songs and had them to my playlist. (I bet I am the only one who hasn’t listen to them yet). But no wahala, right?

Anyway, have a fantastic weekend and happy new month tomorrow!

Don’t forget oo. Vote, vote and vote! Thanks in advance! Details on the image below.
