A Day in the Life: The #InternDiaries Edition

Hello world!

Sometimes, I read or watch people talk, or show their typical day in the life. Mine is not an extraordinary one. I wake up, go to work, come home, eat and sleep.

But I have written about two A Day In the Life posts and people seem to enjoy it. My blog is the only place I can write or talk about things like these, because when I write my autobiographies and memoirs, you might not see stuffs like these.

So, here is a day in my life, as an intern.

04:44am Alarm goes off for the first time. Time to stretch and close my eyes again

05:07am Second alarm goes off. Personal time (devotion, journaling, music) and checking social media and emails

05:30am thereabout House chores, prepare fire for water and breakfast

06:00am Personal hygiene. You know, those things……

06:30am Breakfast, dressing up, check everything is in my backpack

07:15/07:20am off to work

08:00am Check planner, relax as I get to work. Here, I try to do work intended for the day. If I get a free time, I journal, write or blog or my project work. If I get some free time, I run personal errands. I do not always go for break, since I am trying to save up some money for some upkeep.

03:30pm we close from work, and linger around.

04:30pm thereabout I get home, try to relax, do chores, get something to eat.

06:30-07:30pm Personal time. I read, or watch a favourite show, journal, or be on social media. Plan what should be done the next day. I mostly chill on the corridor with Mom.

09:30pm Time for bed. Sometimes, I sleep later than that.

This is a typical day in the life of me as an intern. Some days are more fun, some are much boring. But this is just a typical outline.

p.s. Watch out!!!

#InternDiaries Chp 0.4: The Writings on the Walls of a High School

As I teach or invigilate a class, I read the writings on the walls. You know that moment when you want to write a roll call of your squad, or just leave your nicknames on the walls. That shows, you are in a secondary school.
I was here som.

We were all there some. It took me back to my high school, where people wrote on the walls. I vividly remember Esther Smith was here som, which was on the ceiling of the form 2 block in the high school I attended. My internship brings memories, high school memories.

Some of the writings on the walls are about the end times, some are wise sayings, and others are things you do not understand. They sound Greek to me, probably, a language they understand.  Other writings too are cringe worthy. You wouldn’t know what made them to write that. Anyway, that is SHS life for you. A time to remember, and look back at your naïve selves.

I don’t remember leaving my mark in high school, but I remember when I was in form two, everyone wrote her name/nickname on the blackboard before, covering it with a brand new white Formica Board. So at least, I left a mark in high school. At least, one.

Let’s chat: Did you write on your high school walls? Did you leave a mark? Do you remember what you wrote?

Thinking Out Loud

Hello world!

Happy new month to you all. I hope, you are all fit as a fiddle. (Wow, Marietta, you are going back to the 19th century?). Never mind.

Life has been pretty hectic lately. I hardly feel the social part of my life anymore. Between student teaching internship, having my project work supervised, and many other things, where can I find the fun?

Before I started this internship, I thought, oh more time for me to build upon my social life. I thought, because I do not need to study since I am on internship, except for the period when I am writing my action research, free periods would be in abundance. I hardly iron casual outfits anymore. I wash and iron more work clothes.

I now understand the plight of workaholics. It’s not their faults. At all.

I now always look forward to weekends, the time I can get away from the overwhelming feels of student teaching. Yep.

I need a break. A very long one. I feel I have to recharge myself, but unfortunately, there is no break until the school vacates. I am hoping to make good use of the Christmas break before school resumes next January.

We are in the month of November, glory be to God! I can’t actually believe the year is literally over. I remember the beginning of the year like it happened yesterday. The beginning was not a cool one at all, but I am grateful for everything.

The year 2016 has been some way, not the sweet sixteen I expected it to be, and not the year of scary scenes.

Anyway, we still have hope. More vim.

#InternDiaries Chp 0.3: The Feet That Invigilates

Few days for the school I teach in to go on mid-term holidays, the students wrote exams. We call it Mid Term Exams, and we had to invigilate most of the papers they wrote.

Invigilation is a very tough work. You have to be attentive, and walk through the lanes. It is advisable to be in ballet flats.

You all know, I love high heels. I conquer the world in high heels, and chill in wedges. But if you know, you would be walking through a bunch of students, sitting at their desks, fighting for their retentive memory battle, you need to wear flats.

Trust me, I have a testimony.

#InternDiaries Chp 0.2: I see my mates in them

As I mentioned before, I am doing my student teaching internship in a secondary school (high school) and it is an interesting one.

I enter a class and I see some of my high school mates in them. It’s so amazing. It takes you back to the school that never allowed you to go out until vacation day. (Yeah, they did that).

It’s not only when I enter the class alone. Anytime, I am at my desk, and I watch the window and see some pass by. I see them in the Assembly Hall.

I saw the girl who claims to be religious. I saw most fashionable aka most fa. I saw the fat Home Economics girl. I saw the geek girl in glasses.

I haven’t met my high school self yet, I hope to see her before I complete this internship.

#InternDiaries Chp 0.1: I Trust my High Heels

Welcome to Marietta's Intern Diaries,
where she would be writing about the basic life and thoughts
 of an intern.

I have started doing my student teaching internship. It is ermmm…… what’s the word? If I remember, I would tell you.

So, you see me so, I’m in my early twenties, but I look like someone who is a teenager. (No offense to me). Some girls are bigger than me. Some boys are bigger than me.

Anyway, it’s a funny experience. You are a teacher, talking on top of your voice, handling teenage boys (You can imagine!), handling teenage girls (another story), but you don’t get paid.

I haven’t really written down what I have been going through but hey, it’s another kind of world.

Being a small person is really something. A student walks to you to inquire of something, then you have to raise your head to listen to the person because the person is bigger and taller than you. This is where high heels comes in. You have to wear them to become taller than them and superior to them.

I am not saying I am short or anything. I have the average height. My size is what I am talking about here, and also your young face and stature. After teaching, all I do is to come back to my working desk, sit in front of my computer and laugh in my head.

My high heels makes me look smart, and my glasses already shows that I am that kind of a geek/nerd. Someone who understands the computer, and has been using it all year long (apart from blogging, hehehe xx.)

Anyway, thank you heels. You make me feel good. But walking in it to and fro during a computer practical session is another wahala.

Thanks for reading. See you later.

NoelInternDiaries 2015: Chapter 3. What's In My Bag?

Hello world!
Today, we are having another talk on this segment, the Noel Intern Diaries 2015. And you all know that I am a bag lover and I can't do without one. Definitely, you need a bag for your internship, right? So today, I'm going to show you what I normally put in my bag when doing my internship.

Notebook. I always carry a small sized notebook around . I'm a casual writer and love to jot down inspiration and ideas whether it is for a poem, story, blog post or even videos.

Planner. I can't go without planning my day. It became part of me since I entered secondary school.

Headphones. To be used during my break. I love listening to music, spoken word, podcasts, and other audio recordings

Phone. For the obvious reasons

Charger. I used my phone a lot, so I have to charge my phone when it is almost dead

Umbrella. It rains a lot during this period in my country

My keys. I have to get home sometime

Tissue.

Chewing gum /mint. Just to freshen my breath

Wallet.

Inhaler. I am an asthmatic patient

A Beauty Bag which contains
Hand cream
Mirror
Comb/brush
Fragrance
Hair elastics, bobby pins, clips
Hand sanitizer
Lip balm
Feminine towels
Eye liner

These are mostly the things I put it my bag used for internship. The organizations I usually intern in do not allow the bringing of laptops and pen drives.

So, ladies, what do you put in your internship bag?

Noel's Intern Diaries 2015 Chapter 1: Skills You Need For Every Internship

Bonjour! I'm speaking French today. Hallelujah!
Today, we'll start talking about internships. Yeah, I know it's that time of the year again. Like it's Christmas.

This segment; Noel Intern Diaries is a platform to share our internship stuff: skills, fashion, tips, essentials and all that. In today's lesson /post (Gosh! I feel like a teacher, lol), we are going to talk about skills you need for every internship /attachment.

You need positive attitude
In the real world of work, you are suppose to maintain a positive attitude towards work. Come to work early, abide by the rules, do your assigned work with cheerfulness. Do not complain, nag or do a scanty/shoddy work . Also, when you are given a task to perform, do it to your best ability .

Report Writing
I am grateful that I was taught how to write reports in my first year. This is an essential skill you need to have during your internship. Mostly, we are asked to write our weekly reports or a report on a task done. Learn how to write reports as you plan on doing an attachment or internship

Microsoft Office (Most especially Excel, Word, Access)
In most of our assignments and tasks, we use MS Office to perform our duties. If you are working in Database sector, you might use Access. In finance, Excel might be needed. Sometimes too, our bosses give us a task to create power point slides for presentations. Like last year, I was given a presentation project to do.

These are the skills you would need.

PS: This is just my opinion. If you think there is a skill I have left out, share it in the comments!

Stay sweet

My Attachment (Internship) Period (And The Lessons I Learnt)

I remember when I came home for the long vacation, I never had the desire to do my attachment. Come on, I was hard up and I needed money to prepare for the next academic year. Besides, my laptop was ill, I had to look for accommodation, go to the hospital and revamp my wardrobe (It was really important for me). But I searched and did not find, so my last option was to do my attachment (unpaid internship). I sent my letter of introduction letter and landed somewhere.
I did not regret working here as an intern. I learnt a lot about marketing, customer care…………etc

I learnt a lot at my place. I learnt how to make appointments with clients and follow up calls which was a bit scary at first.

I also learnt it was VERY BAD to use office resources for your personal use during office hours. Once I was caught reading a novel (I love reading) on my office computer. I downloaded it and was reading. My boss caught me and warned not to do that again. It was very unofficial.

I learnt how to dress officially to work place. This has made me like to dress up like that to class.

I also learnt that, if you need to ask permission to be absent for a while, it should be asked a week earlier, so that work that was prepared for you to be done would be noted to be done sooner or later.

In my field, I learnt how develop questionnaires for evaluation of services like customer care.

I was absent for a day and was not able to phone in due to some circumstances. If you know you cannot make it to work, call in to inform someone at your work place.

Also, try to study someone before getting acquainted with them. You might not like the end results. Seriously.

One last thing, I learnt how to do perforation and binding of documents. Yeah.

How was your internship? What did you also learn?
