Low Battery

Hello everyone.

I just realized my blog has gone on low battery.

Say what?

Marietta, what does that even mean?

Well, I’m saying my blog has gone on low battery and….

Low battery? Low battery?? Do blogs go on low battery?

I don’t even know! Just listen to me  read!

Blogging and I are going on a break.

You should have just said so. You have a lousy way of showing it.

*rolls eyes*. Yeah, right. Whatever.

So, people, we are on break and might come back in April. Note: We are NOT quitting. I am just on a break on blogging. There will be no kelewele date. This is a see you later, not a goodbye.

Let’s connect on Instagram and Twitter.

A bientot.

Kelewele Date with Marietta (26/02/2016): Life Updates

Music Album playing: X by Ed Sheeran

Welcome to another #keleweledate with Marietta episode. If this is your first time of reading such a post on this blog, you are warmly welcome, or if this is your first time of reading my blog, welcome friend! Kelewele Date with Marietta is a monthly date with my virtual readers (read: friends). It happens every last Friday of the month on this blog and on social media. We talk about everything except politics.

It’s 26th today, 3 days till the end of the month. For me, February has been slower than January. January ran faster than I expected, but February is kind of slow.

I am grateful for life right now, and Easter is coming and it is early this year. 25th March is Good Friday. Mostly, Easter falls in April.

This year is also a leap year, meaning 366 days this year. One good thing about leap years is that, you get additional 24 hours that year for once, which is 29th, so I think you should make use of the additional day to replace loss, don’t you think so?

Winneba! Why has water abandon us like that? Please water come back, we need you. We love you. Winneba and some towns in Ghana have been experiencing water shortage. We hope it flows again, something should be done please. Water! Please come back to Winneba! Please!

Is it just me, or the weather is extremely hot? The neighbourhood in which I live in is supposed to be a cool environment, but it is rather the opposite. It is hot, and I sweat a lot now and drink a lot of water.

Hot! Hot! Hot!

The absence of water has taught us to use less than half of the water we use to bath. it has taught us to cherish little drops of water.
But mehn, it's becoming too much

Also, food has become super expensive, because there is no rain.

The Stories Told By the African Cloth

I was looking at some items in a sack bag, then I saw a smaller polythene bag with cloth materials in it. A whole lot of them that made me have a mother-daughter interview with my mum.

The Vlisco Fashion Company African Prints, and each of them had their names and type tag. It was through this one that each cloth in Africa had unique names and there are little stories behind them.
Below are some of the cloth and their respective names.

Please note. I wrote the words as I saw it on the cloth pieces. Spellings is not entirely my intention. That is how they wrote it on the pieces. You might notice different spellings for some local words, but that’s how they were displayed. Also, the groupings is done by my own interesting and naming. ;)

Animals

These are prints of animals, both domestic and wild animals.

big snail and shrimps

big snail and speedbird

snake skin

spider and guinea fowl

Basin
These ones are the most expensive ones and very quality ones

French

These have French names. I think they are from the Francophone countries.
The meaning is written in the brackets in English.

cerceaux (hoop)  and loeil de ma rivale (my rival's eye)
jalouse (Jealousy) and  petit lion (little lion)

labre tombe(Grave Tree)
sucre(sugar) and jour et nuit(day and Night)

 Household
I named this household because they are things that can be found at home, or in a home.

opener and staircase

table ronde and steps

Objects

diamond and mask
record and helment
The record print is called that because it is like the compact disk (CD). They used to use such kind of disc to play music from. Now this is very popular among Ghanaians.

Sa Sawa
Some time ago, Sa Sawa became trendy. Almost everyone had sewn a dress with it. Sa Sawa is pieces of cloth sewn together to make one cloth.

School
I named this school because it had objects that are being used in school.

pencil and eight

wax  print abc n wax block abc

The Blues
They are blue in colour, and almost everyone has this kind of cloth.

grapes and kings chair

The Friday Born, according to Creo’s Concept

My name is Afua, Afia, Afi. It is the name(s) given to a Ghanaian girl born on Friday.

Last two weeks or so, Creo’sConcept uploaded pictures and characteristics of girls born on each day. They really know how to put us in suspense. I know. They did it to me, uploading this image as Afua Friday morning.

I frowned. How can they do this to Friday born? But I felt from the beginning that, it was just a prank and they uploaded this later in the day.

They got us, didn’t they?

The Friday born is
A music lover
A deep thinker
Sensitive
Passionate
Talented!
And I totally agree!

Yes! It feels as if they interviewed me about my personality, which brought out the outcome.
I am a music lover. I can abuse music.

Meaning I can play music the whole time without getting tired.

Yes!

I am very sensitive. I even wanted them to add emotional to it.

Friday Borns Rock!

I have said it.

Book Review: Hidden Rainbow + Something Closer to Red

“……If we had no trials, no troubles, how would God test our strength and genuineness?......”
Sister Lutz, Hidden Rainbow, pg. 317

The Testament was hidden under the mattress. Their world was dark and full of lost happiness, until they John and Anna brought it out and discovered ………..

THEIR HIDDEN RAINBOW
Hey there! I greet you.

I am so proud of myself. 14 Days of MarieAmour was a success! I was able to blog for 14 days straight including Sundays, which I haven’t done before. The highest I had ever gone before that was two days.

Whoa! Well done, Marietta.

I did it and I like it.

So, Monday was a rest day for me, from the trip, to the Vals celebration (which wasn’t a huge one, but I liked it), and no lectures on Monday. I did enjoyed my rest. I am gradually get back on track with my studies and blogging.

Another thing I am so proud of: I read almost 5 books in January. Yes! I know, but seriously, it’s nothing. I mean, back in my SHS days when I could read 10 novels a month, which can be 30 books in a term. It was normal, you know, especially when you are surrounded by two girls (Omay and Ella) who were possessed of reading romance. (I miss them!!!) Now, I have other loads on me and reading can be done only when school is out.

Sometimes, I miss my SHS life.

No worries, the main reason for this post is another novel review and a lipstick I am rocking. To tell you the truth, the novel’s title or blurb isn’t what attracted me to read, rather the author’s name.
Christmas Carol Kauffman.

Her name, how relatable it sounds, and I loved her already. I wish she was alive, like I would have searched for her, and we’ll become best friends born on the same day, but different years; 25th December.

The book is a true story about a forbidden New Testament that shattered the calm of a Yugoslavian village.

John and Anna, a married couple who were born to Catholic parents were led to the truth, light and true happiness through the ministry of a Protestant missionary. The town was against such doctrines taught and the reading of the Holy Bible. When you are caught talking with a missionary like that, you would be severely criticized by the Reverend Father of the town.

I like Anna for her bravery, courage, motherly skills and heart. She has a beautiful soul, and though she was severely criticized by the neighbours, family, and the Catholic Church, she still believed in reading the Bible and believing in God and worshipping Him through Jesus Christ.

I would give this novel a 4.5 out of 5. It was well written and easy to understand, and it has made my faith to be stronger.

This is a lipstick I found at home, that has a colour closer to red. I found it in my mother’s makeup bag. I have made a goal to invest in a good red lipstick. I somehow think, a lipstick that is red, is not the right shade of lipstick for my skin colour, but there is no harm in trying, right?

The photos I took for this blog were not as bright as I expected. The harmattan fog in January did not favour my photos, they look as if I used a filter called harmattan to edit my photos. Eek. Can you imagine? A filter called Harmattan to edit photos. It would be whacky.

Have you read the novel? What do you think of having a photo filter called Harmattan? Which red lipstick brand would you recommend?

Ps. Enjoy some snapshots of the video I planned not to upload for the novel review. Hehehe.
