The Year of the Melancholy: Life Likes to Tease

Hello world!

The first poem under The Year of the Melancholy would be uploaded soon. In the meantime, click to subscribe.

I will put the poem here also for those who would like to read.

Enjoy.

Life Likes to Tease

Life wakes me up when I’m feeling sleepy
Tells me to shut the hell up when I’m weeping
Takes my money and throws it into the ocean
And dares me to find it
Or else I won’t eat tonight

Life turns some good friends into bad ones
As it introduces them to a girl called Betrayal
Life advises me to make GOOD friends
But LIFE is friends with
Its alter ego who is a thief
The thief calls himself Death
That’s when I understood
“Show me your friend, and I’ll show you your character”
Life is Death in disguise

Life throws a javelin into your immune system
Life names the javelin infirmity
Tells us to stay there
“Stay in your bed! Don’t get up!”

Life throws pepper into your eyes
Calls the effect tears
The river that flows and dries up

“Life, oh life! You are so unfair!”
“I know that,” says life. “I always take that as a compliment”

Thank you for reading and hope to see you in the next post....

A Poem for You

I don’t know whether the official colour(s) for St. Valentine’s Day is red or red and white.

Good morning and happy red day!

I don’t know whether the official colour(s) for St. Valentine’s Day is red or red and white. Some of us did not wake up to red roses and a surprise chocolate and teddy bear or breakfast in bed and yada yada yada.

When I woke up this morning, I was hoping of seeing some love captions with associating pictures on Twitter and Instagram and maybe Facebook.

Like….

Oh, see what she bought me. I love her so much.

My boyfriend is the best. He surprised me with breakfast in bed.

Then we will react with the love reaction and go like awwws and ohhhs.

After 14th, end of story.

But I have a poem for you today. *insert crowd going wild*. Because that’s how we do every year on the blog right?

Some Things I Love about Him (page 1)
His eyes, like the moonlight made of red dust
His touch, like the kisses of delicate roses
His kisses, like the shores of a happy beach
His hugs, filled with heavenly kisses
His voice, required to open my heart’s gate
His laughter, welcoming me home

So, for your information, this poem was written last year. I decided to review it and make some changes, so the words on the photo might slightly differ from what was just typed on here.

Have a nice day everyone!

Symbolic Poem: The Sky as Your Crown

Nowadays, I call myself a poetic photographer. I have taken smartphone photography as my new passion. I wanted to be a professional lifestyle photographer but I do not need to wait to get enough money to purchase a camera before I start. I decided to start with my smartphone.

So if you want me to take a picture of you using my smartphone, I am always available. I don’t have the best camera quality but I can do something about it.

There is this palm tree at home and it looks funny. It is not dead, but the fronts have withered. It is still firm to the ground, producing palm fruit and providing shade. I wonder if it is normal for a palm nut tree to look like that. To look dead, yet living.
This palm nut tree looked symbolic to me, so I decided to write a short poem about it.

You were in pain
 But you still wore
 The sky as your crown

There are people who are in pain, whether physical pain or emotional pain, but they overlook those pains and care for those they love and grew up with. It is their calling to do that, and they have gladly accepted it.

In the end, try to look at the brighter side of things. Have hope and be strong.

Of Your Absence and the Harmattan

Hello world!

Welcome to another blogmas post (#DecemberMiracles). I have a harmattan poem to share with you, even though the harmattan is not fully in force. I wrote it last year. Do not forget to share with friends and someone you love and missing so much.

{Source}

Of Your Absence and the Harmattan

Far away you are
I miss the sound of your breath
And the rhythm of your heart
The harmattan dries off the memories of wet kisses and tight hugs
Your absence makes my heart to beat a thud
I cannot complain more
Of your absence and the harmattan

Marietta DeGrant Poetry: Remind Me

Hello world!

There have been a lot of cloudy/rainy days and I spend the moment by writing poetry. One rainy Monday, I was reflecting and making a list of things (I love making lists) and I realized I needed a lot of reminders in life to move forward, to make my dreams come true and to remember that God loves me. I needed a reminder that I should not be scared of anything and whatever I am going through will turn out to be a blessing.

I looked at the date and I realized that life is moving so fast, I wanted it to slow down. I needed little reminders that would tell me to make every pretty moment a treasure. Reminders that would tell me that life is worthwhile and the people who make my life beautiful should be appreciated.

So I wrote this poem, Remind Me to tell life to remind me of certain things.

This poem is dedicated to people who love me and always wish the best of me.

Dear Life
Remind me of the things I ought to live for
Remind me to slow down
Don’t be too hard on me
By telling me to work hard to earn papers with people’s faces on them
Remind me to appreciate the rain
Remind me to let my skin inhale sunlight
Remind me to kiss my lover every night
Remind me to take pictures of children playing in the mud
Remind me to take a deep breath
Because life is all about capturing memories
And sharing them with the world
With our loved ones first
Remind me to travel to see other parts of the world
Remind me to learn
Remind me to teach my descendants what I have learnt in life
Remind me……to drink water

A Marietta DeGrant Poem: Can I Tell You?

I can tell you of my aesthetic dreams
The ones that makes my life look like a dreamland
But if it bores you, it’s ok
I see you are a different taste

I can still tell you of how I look kelewele
The feeling it gives my tongue
But it’s ok if you don’t like it
Because of the spices that makes your nose run

Maybe I can show you my journals
I wrote a story of a girl
I wrote a poem about a boy
But it’s ok if it doesn’t interest you
You hate to read

Can I tell you about the boy next door?
I can tell you about how I admire his lips
And the eyes he uses to wink at me
But it’s ok if you don’t want to listen
You are only interested in yourself

Can I still tell you about my aesthetic dreams?

The Eve of Christmas Eve + A Prose Poem

Hello world!

Happy Eve of Christmas Eve. The feeling of getting closer to Christmas is a feeling I love. The playing of the Silent Night Song and the peace at home (Even if sometimes, there is none at all), reading festive books and dreading the harmattan.

Aha! I have noticed the Harmattan is around, but he is flexing, behaving as if he doesn’t want to show himself bi, doing himself lasi lasi bi. Hooh! We won’t mind him kraaa. Me dier, I am just wanting for him. He should come and by the time he realizes, he is in court.😅😅😅😅😅😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Lolz xx.

I have a poem for you today. It is about the Capricorn born in December.

The Capricorn Born In December

Capricorn
Capricorn…… the GOAT
Capricorn…….the Greatest of All Time
She is always hiding
Under the sheets
Not wanting to be seen
She cups her dreams in a glass mason jar
And turns it slowly, watching her dreams dance in them
“Wow!” she exclaims. “They are beautiful.”
She opens the jar and takes one dream
The dream walks on her hand and smiles at her
She wants to join beautiful words
And tell a story
That’s one of her dreams
To write to the world

She jolts as she heard footsteps
She quickly puts the write dream into the jar
And hides it under her pillow
She feared the world, feared negativity
Feared nobody would accept her
Claiming her writing is not good enough
She stared at fear that walked into her room
Playbacks above her head, laughing at the dreams under her pillow
She was told once that, Capricorns are the greatest of all time
Maybe, she was born on the wrong star
Maybe, she was just a Capricorn born in December

But she needed to prove nothing
She needed to just be herself
And love the dreams she had
These and many more
She brought them out and held them up high
Fear did not leave her alone
It stood there with its yellow teeth
But she did not tremble
She opened the jar, and they flew out
They danced around fear’s head
The rrom became colourful
Fear felt uneasy, became weak
And it run out of the room

She smiled, knowing that she was no longer a Capricorn born in December

But she was THE CAPRICORN BORN IN DECEMBER

Poem Talk: Long Long Ago

This poem is found in the book, A Treasury of Christmas Classics. It is one of the books I love to read during the holidays. There are classic poems and beautiful short stories in there. It even includes the classic Christmas story, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

One of the poems I love is Long Long Ago. I have no idea who wrote it because the name of the poet was not written. It is a very simple poem and easy to understand, easy to memorize. If you are having a festive carol activity or event where kids are supposed to perform spoken word, this poem is perfect for it.

Christmas poems are beautifully written, and I hope to write a couple of them and publish them one day.

Stanza 1
Winds through the olive trees
Softly did blow,
Round little Bethlehem
Long, long ago.

This stanza takes us to the scene, and the time that the Christ child was born. The night was calm and the winds blew through the trees softly. I can imagine the sound of the wind, peaceful and quiet and soft.

Stanza 2
Sheep on the hillside lay
Whiter than snow;
Shepherds were watching them,
Long, long ago.

This stanza talks about the shepherds watching their white sheep. The sheep were lying down on the hill, and their shepherds sat by them, watching them with love.

Stanza 3
Then from the happy sky,
Angels bent low,
Singing their songs of joy,
Long, long ago.

In this stanza, the angels appear, singing songs of great joy unto the shepherds. I can imagine how it felt like to be sitting on the ground, with their flock and other shepherds and all of a sudden, a great light comes with angels singing in their melodious voices. How thrilling it would be.

Stanza 4
For in a manger bed,
Cradled we know,
Christ came to Bethlehem,
Long, long ago.

The Christ child is born, and he laid in the manger in Bethlehem.

I love the poem so much. It is dear to my heart. It is one of the Christmas poems I’ll cherish and teach.

Do you know of any Christmas poem that is dear to your heart?

Write Poetry

When you are in a good mood, write poetry. I tell, it reveals how much of a poet you are. If you are in a very bad mood too, write poetry, in a very bad handwriting and burn it. You will see the flames of your words floating in the air, carrying your anger away.

When you are experiencing the heartbreak where death comes in and takes your favourite person away, write poetry. It will remind death that, no one likes him, so he should back off.

If you are experiencing a heartbreak in friendships, relationships or death, write a poem and bury it. One day, your ex-boyfriend, ex-girlfriend, ex-friend would find it, and will regret breaking your heart, whether it is fragile or hard, and will regret leaving you.

When you are in love, write poetry. It will remind love that, she is saturation, and makes people observe the mole under your chin, and tell you how beautiful your mole is. It will remind love that, she is something else. Something we cannot understand.

When you feel unappreciated, or when people look down on you, write poetry. One day, people will find it, and regret doing that. They will learn the lesson that, anyone can come up at any time. It will also remind you that, you made it.

Poetry: Nail Polish

Hello world! It's been long a poem by me was featured on the blog.
Here you go. One for you, written earlier this year.

NAIL POLISH

The cover as my brush
And my nails as my canvas
I need pink for cuteness
I need white for coziness
Oh, I need the colour red for confidence
Black would make me look dark
Purple will make me look smart
Oh gold, oh gold
Come and make me look rich
Brown, make me retain my African colour
Nude, bring me newness, a fresh start
Silver, remind me of Christmas
The colour peach
Remind me of who I am
I am Marietta

And I love the peach nail polish

Poetry: Dream Of Me

Do you dream of me?

When you close your eyes, do you dream of me?
When you hear my name, do you dream of me?
Do you dream of my smiles?
Do you dream of my laughter?
Do you dream of my tears?
Do you dream of my touch?
My caress
My squeeze
My complaints
My annoyance

Do you dream of my prayers for you?
My fast for you?

Do you dream of my love for you?
My want of you?
My need of you?

When you see my face, do you dream of me?
When you hear my voice, do you dream of me?
Do you dream of my mistakes?
My imperfections
My downfall
My adversary
My adversity

When you see my lips, do you dream of my kisses?
My soft whisperings
My lullaby
When you see my eyes, do you dream of my tears?
My joy
My sadness
My little white lies

When you see my heart, do you dream of my love for you?
My anger
My heavenly peace
When you see me, do you dream of my feelings?
My excitement
My shiver

Do you ever dream of me?

A Star Is Born

This poem was written during the Christmas of 2012. I viewed Jesus Christ as a tiny king lying in the manger. A king, born at a place that smells of animals and dry grass.

It is time
Shout it on the mountain tops
That a star is born
Let’s start to ring the bell
A star is born
Announce it, so that all the world would know
That kid is coming to shine
So, come on everybody, shout out loud
He’s a hero, a bright burning light
So blow your horn
A star is born
Don’t lose hope at all
‘Cause He’s coming to make us pure white
Go! Tell it your neighbor
To go see where the tiny King is laid
Come on! Come on! Sing out loud!
All ye citizens of Heaven
A star is born, let’s go greet Him
And welcome Him with our arms full of weary hugs
Tell a friend to tell a friend to tell a foe too
A great light is shinning
A baby king, born of a Virgin’s womb

A star is born!!!

The Christmas Dream

This Christmas poem was written on Tuesday, 20th November, 2012. I was feeling nostalgic of all my Christmases and I combined the feelings to write this poem, including the ones I would experience for my next Christmases.

Hope you will enjoy it and know my Christmas dreams
Merry Christmas

It’s that time of the year again
Where the carols sing their tunes
Delicious smell of melodies wafting from the radios
Children in the choir
Rehearsing for a heavenly moment

It’s that time of the year again
For cheer to be abundant
Christmas tree lights blinking in rooms
Wreaths hang on the entrance door
And ornaments enlighten the season

It’s that time of the year again
Where people be with their people
Somebodies moving home
To have memories to share
And hold someone in their arms

It’s that time of the year
When bells are rang
And angels sing with their goose bumps-making voices
To announce the one child, the very child
Who brings a smile to every living being

It’s the time of the year again
Where the atmosphere is so different
Lives are saved and made happy
Charity works show their might
Just to make everyone smile the Christmas smile

It’s the time of the year ………again
Where the lovers wait for the moment
To kiss under the mistletoe
Waiting for the 12am New Year’s chime
To get a New Year’s kiss bliss

It’s the time of the year
Where parents are on the rush
To get their kids the thing they want
The toys, the presents, the reindeers
But Father Christmas gets the credit

It’s that time of the year
Where we would hear “O Come”
O Come On Out, Come On Out
There is the greatest joyous news ever!!!

Jesus Christ is born

No Right

To the guy who loved me for just a few hours

No Right
It was his birthday
But I had no right to kiss him
I wished him well
But I had no right to say "I love you"
The feelings that made us leap
Has faded in his soul
But mine is still a volcanic eruption
He was my best friend
But he's now a total stranger
I see him in the streets
But I have no idea who he is
I see him in my dreams
But he's with someone else
I wrote a poem for him
But I have no right to give it to him
At night, I hug his picture
Kiss it, and cry silently
Because I have no right
To tell him "I miss you"

Bad Dreams

This is a poem about a lady  who had nothing going on well with her.
Note: This poem is incomplete. But I would like to hear your opinions

BAD DREAMS

Lights dim
Grey colours appear
Trying to fight back dreams
Heartbreaking dreams
Bad dreams

I beheld a young lady
Her eyes dimmed
Gave out a scream
Without any sound
She faded away
And mingled with the dust

The world became dark
Everything was black
I stared at my paper
A 15% score
"No, this can't be"
I tore it into pieces
And it mingled with the dust

My mirror cracked
At the sight of my face
My reflection dimmed
The waters dried up
At the sight of my reflection
And time stopped

The winds were laughing
Making mockery of me
Snarling my name
And carried me to a man
A man I loved so much

His heart waxed cold
Told me it was over between us
My feelings died
I got heart broken
My heart was bleeding

The moon was mourning
Mourning for my heart
For it had fallen unconscious
And killed my feelings

The sea was weeping
Weeping for my dreams
For they were killed
And burned into ashes

My faith was buried
I was discouraged
I was mocked at again
The winds sniggered
And called me a loser
Loser! Loser!! Loser!!!

I screamed
Screamed blue murder
And the ground trembled
I saw a shadow
Walking towards me
I screamed with tears
And closed my eyes

I felt myself lifted up
