History –Rojayay ft. Kobby Prairie & January

It’s Wednesday, and almost 6am.

A new tune is dropped, and it is about someone who goes into history.

There was someone who came into our lives, as if they were taken out of a perfect life, and delivered to us in a neatly wrapped package.

The package was beautiful, and felt heavy with good things.

On it was written, A Box of Diamonds and Happiness.

But it was opened, and we saw snakes and more gross stuffs.

Things that makes life miserable and disgusting and disappointing and heartbreaking.

The box was full of lies. It was all lies.

Songs That Feels Like Home

Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well, if not at all, you are grateful for something in your heart. Exams start in less than a week (sympathize with me, lolz xx), and Aboakyer Festival is just around the corner. Can you imagine? Exams is the opening ceremony of the festival. Meaning, Exams start before the celebration of the festival.

Bummer.

How on earth would you chill while there are books to read and codes to write?

Anyway, since exams start soon, it means, we are looking forward to the long vac. A time to relax after a stressful academic year.

Before I began this semester, I decided to play one of the CDs that we normally play at home. Mummy was recovering at that time, so I decided to play one of our CDs and listen while going about doing some house chores. I began to wonder why we had these CDs, why my parents bought them. I wonder why, because anytime, I sing them, no one seems to know the songs.

Yes!

Most of the CDs we play at home are not popular in this society that I live in. They are modern folk music, oldies from the 70’s, the Beatles, Portuguese music, Spanish, Arabic, Reggae, silly songs and others.

Sometimes, I wonder why I listen to them. It’s not because I love them or anything, but it’s because, they feel like home.

At least, if you miss home, listen to those songs and you will feel like you are still there.
At times too, the songs remind me of my childhood. They were the songs that were mostly played when I was just a child. I don’t remember listening to Japanese songs, even if I did, I don’t think I’ll remember them, except the educational ones.

I miss the Shogakukhan educational songs. That’s where I learnt most of my Japanese words, but they are all gone.

The Carpenters is one of my favourite CDs played at home. The CD has two artistes’ music on it. The Carpenters and Simon and Garfunkel. Simon and Garfunkel’s music are sort of, er……. (I can’t think of a word. It’s not a bad word, though).

Lambada is another CD, I love to play, to bring energy and life into the house. It is entirely in Portuguese but we still play it, anyway. By the way, have you watched the movie? (The Forbidden Dance)

We have more than 20, 30, 40 CDs that remind me of my childhood. It’s amazing how, I did not like listening to them because none of my friends knew the songs, but now, I listen to them to revisit my childhood.

They are the songs that feels like home.

200% Reggae

Reggae is strangely, one of the genres of music I listen to on mood basis.

Meaning????

I listen to Reggae depending on my mood.

No one understands, except me.

I love to play reggae when I am doing my Saturday chores. I don't know why, but that's me.

Weird, huh?

Maybe, I need to write a whole post on music and my feelings, maybe there, you would understand.
I do not have a favourite Reggae or Dancehall artiste but so far as the beat is good and I can dance to it, it's perfect.

Reggae is good music.

Do you love Reggae or maybe, dance-hall? Who is your favourite artiste? ( Home and abroad )

Movie Review: La Bamba

LaBamba Movie Poster

Para bailar la bamba
Para bailar la bamba
Se necesita una poca de gracia
Una poca de gracia pa(ra) mi pa(ra) ti

I recently watched about one sweet musician called Richard Steven Valenzuela (Popularly known as Ritchie Valens) who used to do the Chicano rock and roll music. He was a singer songwriter and a guitarist.
Ritchie Valens

My mum once told me the story of this guy. A movie was made to tell his story. The time she told me the story, she had forgotten the title, but said, he made a song for his sweetheart, Donna.

Lou Diamond Phillips played the role of Ritchie in the biographical movie, La Bamba. At the beginning of the film, there was a scene, like a memory, which turned out to be a nightmare for him throughout the movie. Some teenage boys were playing basketball in a school yard. Above them, two airplanes collided, falling into the school yard and killing one of his friends. This made him have the fear of boarding an aeroplane.

Ritchie was a cute 17 year old guy who loved to play the guitar, was full of life, smiles and stayed with his mother, half brother Bob and other siblings. He loved a girl called Donna at school, but her father was having issues with their relationship. He wrote a song for her with the title 'Donna '. They were so cute together.
Unfortunately, because he became famous (which made him drop out of school ), he had to be taking planes in order to go on tour. On that fateful night of February 3rd, 1959, when he went for the Winter Dance Party tour with some other musicians, he boarded a plane with them, during a storm (he even had the flu). The plane had a crash, leaving no survivors. That's when my heart broke, that's when music died. He was just 17!!!!!

I wish to tell you the whole story from A-Z, with every detail, but watching it would be better. If you're a little emotional like me, you better hold a handkerchief, because you would shed some tears.
I loved the love-hate -jealousy relationship between Bob and Ritchie. Though their mom was more on Ritchie's side than Bob. (Because Bob was a drunkard, irresponsible and snatched away Ritchie's first girlfriend, Rosie, from him), there would be some obvious jealousy around, but Bob loved his half brother and was ever ready to help Ritchie succeed in his career.

I'm already shedding tears as I type this, listening to his music too, 'Come on, let's go', 'La Bamba ', 'We Belong Together ' and 'Donna '. Please watch it, and I bet you, you'll love him.

May his soul rest in peace, and we love you, Ritchie Valens.

Oh, Donna
Oh, Donna
Oh, Donna
Oh, Donna

I had a girl
Donna was her name
Since she left me
I've never been the same

'Cause I love my girl
Donna, where can you be?
Where can you be?
Bob and Ritchie

 Please, watch it!

Have you seen the La Bamba movie? What do you think about it?

Stay as sweet as Ritchie Valens
