Dr. Marietta DeGrant, M.D

Dr. Marietta DeGrant, M.D
I remember when I was a kid; I wanted to be a doctor. A medical doctor, who wears heels, has long ebony hair, is a ballerina, a model and plays the piano. I even had toy hospital equipment that looked like real hospital tools. I wore my white coat and hang the stethoscope around my neck and wear my name tag, Dr. Marietta. I really wanted to be a doctor, to take care of the sick. I’m even very good at taking care of my sick relatives and friends.
I wanted to be a doctor for kids; a paediatrician. You know, if kids are ill, they need to be comforted and made happy, so that they can get well soon or recover fast.

After I completed Junior High School, I decided to change from being a paediatrician to a neurologist when Mummy told me how a relative of mine had an illness closer to encephalitis and other brain complications. So I decided to major in neurology to learn and investigate what caused my relative’s brain damage.
But when I was in High School, there was this educative TV show. It was called Vodafone Health Line. I decided to watch it, since I had passion for health care. They were operating on someone on one episode and I couldn’t watch it. I know the person would not feel the pain because of the anaesthesia he has taken, but I felt the pain. There and then, I realized I couldn’t be a doctor. Even when my little brother gets a sore (Trust me, his skin is REALLY delicate), I feel his pain.
So I decided to go for my second passion, Information Technology. I am really interested in emerging technologies since I was born in Japan and was exposed to it.
So right now, instead of doing Medicine, I’m taking a degree course in Information and Communication Technology, and I’m happy about it. I love it because, it is adventurous and exciting.
Are you doing something that you didn’t dream of doing? Please share.

  2. Certainly, when I was a kid, I always had the vision of been a big time banker. My uncle who was living close to my house is a chartered accountant. I admired the way always he goes to work in his brand new Nissan car and how he spent his weekend in a grand style. So I just wanted to follow in his footsteps. He always advised me and even inspired me that he's even going to help me achieve my dream if I am serious with my studies. Till high school, I realized I couldn't pursue this vision of mine because I was totally not good in financial accounting. But as a young guy of my age, my dreams just keeps on changing. I feel in love with how gadgets works with this strange softwares on it, (probably that's why I'm not in love with a girl, #lol). I'm now a student pursuing the same degree course as you are offering. But I'm just compromising on this course, because definitely I know and feel I'm gon divert to another career of my choice.*wink*...

  3. Do you choose a major in high school? That's incredible! I know many countries do that, but not the U.S. IT has a great future and there are so many jobs. Whatever you do, you'll do great!

Also, when I was little, my "dream job" was to be a wallpaper designer. Basically, my mom wouldn't let me color on the wallpaper, so I decided that I could color on it all day if I were the designer hehe. Now I want to work for the government (yes, a 180˚ change!).
